Abstract

Generation after Generation examines the political posters of the Arab revolution era, focusing on how images of figures like Leila Khaled were amplified and distorted through Western media. Reduced to uniforms, guns, and anger, Palestinian fighters became icons severed from their lived histories. This series recontextualizes those images, collapsing the figure of the female fighter with the female farmer to reveal intertwined roles in liberation movements. By revisiting this visual archive, the work challenges the orientalist gaze and reasserts symbols like the keffiyeh as emblems of resistance, continuity, and international solidarity.

Keywords: Leila Khaled, orientalist gaze, western media, political posters, Arab revolution
