The Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies is a student-led journal focusing on interdisciplinary research in the humanities, arts, and sciences.


Focus and Scope

The Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies is a student-led journal that publishes original undergraduate research from all fields of study, but with a special emphasis on interdisciplinary works that intersect with the humanities, arts, and sciences. In keeping with the University of Arizona’s mission as a public research university, this journal serves as a forum for innovative and diverse research and scholarship.


Submission Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs and DOIs for the references have been provided.
  4. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of references and quotations. Authors should make sure they are correct, in substance and style.
  5. The text is double-spaced; uses Times New Roman 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review (below) have been followed.

Copyright Notice

The Journal is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to readers or their institutions. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.

Grant of Rights

The Author grants the Journal the following rights:

  1. A non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free right to publish, reproduce, publicly display, publicly perform and distribute the Work in perpetuity throughout the world in all means of expression by any method or media now known or hereafter developed; and
  2. A non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free right to license others, including databases or printing vendors, to do any or all of the above on a non-exclusive basis.

In addition, the Author grants the following license in the Work to the general public (Authors choose from list of licenses below).

Other than the License granted herein, the Author(s) retains all intellectual property rights to the Article and the responsibility for enforcing those rights.

The author(s) are responsible for ensuring their article does not infringe upon any copyright; violate any other right of any third parties; contain any scandalous, libelous, or unlawful matter; or make any improper invasion of the privacy of any person. The author(s) agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the University of Arizona against any claim or proceeding undertaken on any of the aforementioned grounds. Permission to use 3rd party materials e.g. figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, trade literature and data must be secured prior to publication and authors must include these permissions with their final submission.


Peer Review

There will be three rounds of peer review conducted through the Janeway system by our editing team. All material must be submitted by December 21st, 2024 at 11:59 PM Arizona time to be considered. Authors will receive a notification of their submission's application status by mid-January 2025. The peer review dates for 2024/2025 will be updated soon. In 2023/2024, the second round of review will take place between January 27th, 2024, and February 16th, 2024, with authors receiving an additional notification of their submission's status on February 16th. Final edits were due March 1st, 2024, and authors received final notice of acceptance or rejection from the paper by March 8th, 2024. The issue of Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies was scheduled for publication by May 1st, 2024; the exact publication date is yet to be decided. Publication Fees

Journals published or hosted by the University of Arizona Libraries' Publishing Program do not charge author publishing fees. All journals hosted by the University of Arizona Libraries are fully open access, with no charges to access or to publish.


Publication Cycle

The Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies is an annual publication. The current issue will be published in May 2025.
