Editor on the Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (AJIS) Editorial Team
Pay: ($ Stipend)
Duration: October 23rd 2022 - May 12th 2023
Duties & Responsibilities: Each editor on the AJIS Editorial Team is primarily responsible for peer reviewing several article submissions assigned to them throughout the selection process. There will be multiple rounds of review throughout the Spring semester and editors will be asked to line edit, provide general comments, and make a recommendation about whether or not each article should move on to the next round of review. In the Fall, editors will also be expected to assist the journal’s promotional effort to receive submissions.
Qualifications:
● Undergraduate student
● Skilled and enthusiastic writer
● Strong reading comprehension ability
● Strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines
Hours:
● Hours per week will vary depending on the stage of the publication process.
● Should expect to work at least 50 hours per year, the majority of which will take place during the Spring semester.
Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (AJIS) Graphic Designer
Pay: ($$ Stipend)
Duration: October 23rd 2022 - May 12th 2023
Duties & Responsibilities: The AJIS Graphic Designer is responsible for all of the graphical features of the journal. This includes but is not necessarily limited to:
1) Designing the Journal's cover
2) Formatting the Journal's contents
3) Putting together promotional materials
The Graphic Designer will work closely with the Editor-In-Chief and the Assistant Editor-In-Chief throughout the year to successfully implement their vision for that year’s volume and help ensure that AJIS’s promotional materials and publication is of the highest quality.
Qualifications:
● Undergraduate student
● Some previous Graphic Design experience
● Enthusiasm for creating quality designs
● Strong work ethic and ability to collaborate well with others
Hours:
● Should expect to work at least 140 hours per year
● Hours per week will vary depending on the stage of the publication process
Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (AJIS) Editor-in-Chief
Pay: ($$ Stipend)
Duration: August 22nd 2022 - May 12th 2023
Duties & Responsibilities: The Editor-In-Chief carries ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the editing process for each year’s edition of the journal runs smoothly. They head the promotional effort for the journal, lead editorial team meetings, and coordinate multiple rounds of peer review. They also communicate with the authors who have submitted their work for consideration and the University of Arizona faculty/staff members who are associated with AJIS. They have the final say as to which articles are published and are fully responsible for ensuring that AJIS is published successfully in May.
Qualifications:
Served as Assistant Editor-In-Chief the year before
Upperclassman, either an undergraduate junior or a senior
Possesses strong writing skills
Ability to plan long-term and successfully organize a team of people
Self-motivated and passionate about keeping the quality of AJIS exceptionally high
Can collaborate and work well with others
Hours:
Should expect to work at least 160 hours per year
Hours per week will vary depending on the stage of the publication process
Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (AJIS) Assistant Editor-in-Chief
Pay: ($$ Stipend)
Duration: August 22nd 2021 - May 12th 2023
Duties & Responsibilities: The Assistant Editor-In-Chief is the primary assistant to the Editor-In-Chief. They are tasked with learning all of the Editor-In-Chief's responsibilities (see description for Editor-In-Chief position) and assisting them in execution of those responsibilities. In order to ensure a smooth transition from year to year, this position has been established so that the Assistant Editor-In-Chief will automatically assume the position of Editor-In-Chief the following year. As such, the Assistant Editor-In-Chief is expected to be committed to AJIS for at least two years (one year as Assistant Editor-In-Chief and the next year as Editor-In-Chief). Although the number of hours per week will vary throughout the year, depending on the stage of the publication process, the Junior Editor-In-Chief should expect to work at least 140 hours per year.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate student (but not a senior)
Able to commit two full years to AJIS
Possesses strong writing skills
Knows how to plan long-term and successfully organize a team of people
Self-motivated and passionate about keeping the quality of AJIS exceptionally high
Can collaborate and work well with others
Enthusiastic about learning how to do the job well from the current Editor-In-Chief
