Abstract
A system of ratings for printed matter, similar to that now in use by the motion picture industry, is proposed for voluntary adoption by the publishing industry. The author contends such a system is necessary in order to protect adults from involuntary contact with material they may find offensive as well as to protect children from coming in contact with material that may be damaging to them.
