Standardized Agreements and the Parol Evidence Rule: Defining and Applying the Expectations Principle

Abstract

This Article addresses Arizona's adoption of the reasonable expectations doctrine for standardized contract disputes in Darner Motor Sales, Inc. v. Universal Underwriters Insurance Co.. Citing the multiplicity of formulations of the doctrine, the authors suggest a new standard for honoring reasonable expectations which harmonizes with the parol evidence rule.
