Abstract
This article examines the benefits of archival research in revitalizing HBCU opera programs and reclaiming their historical significance within the opera industry. By examining the use of archival materials in the 2024 Xavier University of Louisiana's production The Pirates of Portsmouth, Xavier Opera will serve as a case study to gauge the potential effectiveness of archival research as a resource to help sustain these programs.
