Abstract
Controversy surrounding the growth of fringe religious groups during the seventies gives rise to this consideration of the various legal means utilized to inhibit religious cult expansion. Detailed analysis is given to the constitutionality of guardianship proceedings used to isolate and deprogram cult members. A proffered suggestion seeks to resolve the conflict between individual rights of the cultists and state interests.
