Some Thoughts about a General Rule

Abstract

In discussing the Supreme Court's recent decision in Gannett Co. v. DePasquale, Justice Stevens' analyzes what he characterizes as a general rule: that a sharp distinction must be drawn between first amendment protections afforded to the dissemination of information or ideas on the one hand, and the acquisition of newsworthy matter on the other.
