Abstract
The intricate balance between federal and state power, authority, and autonomy is analyzed in this discussion of the Court's 1976 decision in National League of Cities v. Usery. The author concludes that as a direct result of the Court's definition of local autonomy, resistance may be expected to federal policy impositions which Usery recognized would properly be undertaken at the federal level.
