Involuntary Civil Commitment of American Indians Residing in Indian Country

Abstract

The author explores some of the legal and practical problems surrounding involuntary civil commitment of American Indians residing in "Indian country" and suggests that federal legislation may provide a reasonable solution to the legal tangle that currently impedes the effective delivery of care to some mentally ill American Indians.
