Abstract
The Supreme Court has approved lengthy detention of suspected drug smugglers at the United States border. This Article examines the consequences of this decision on the fourth amendment protections usually afforded suspects and proposes alternatives which would serve equally well to reduce drug smuggling but which would also better preserve the protections of the fourth amendment.
